Emdr can help with depression
This article https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6113947/ discusses a research study that assessed the effectiveness of EMDR on depression. Basically they found that EMDR is a good adjunct to regular talk therapy and CBT combined and is much more effective than TAU (treatment as usual/i.e.: CBT alone).
In my work with clients who are experiencing depression, I use a combination of CBT, mindfulness techniques, regular talk therapy, and EMDR. I have seen mild to moderate depression improve significantly, if not resolve completely, and major depression improve somewhat. There are many factors and individual differences, but in my experience, EMDR is always at least somewhat helpful, if not greatly helpful, but worth a try in most cases.
If you are experiencing depression and would like to try EMDR, you will usually know within a few sessions whether it’s going to be helpful for you. If you have questions about whether EMDR might be right for you, feel free to give me a call and we can discuss your particular situation.
