EMDR Depression Therapy in Asheville, NC
Depression isn't just feeling sad. It can look like exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, losing interest in things you used to love, or a quiet numbness that makes it hard to feel much of anything at all. It can make even small tasks feel impossible — and it can be hard to ask for help when everything feels heavy.
You don't have to stay there. Therapy can help.
How I Treat Depression
My preferred approach for depression is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Research shows that combining EMDR with talk therapy outperforms CBT alone for depression. In my own practice, I've seen it make a real difference, even in cases where other approaches haven't. EMDR works by helping the brain process the underlying experiences and beliefs that are keeping you stuck, rather than just managing symptoms on the surface.
Depending on what's showing up for you, I may also draw from CBT, mindfulness techniques, and psychodynamic talk therapy. We'll figure out together what fits best.

EMDR has been shown in clinical research to outperform CBT alone for depression — and the results Carol sees in her Asheville practice reflect that.
FAQs about Therapy for Depression
Can EMDR really help with depression?
Yes. Research supports EMDR as an effective adjunct to traditional therapy for depression, and my clinical experience backs that up. Most clients have a sense within a few sessions whether it's working for them.
What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help?
That's more common than you'd think — and it doesn't mean therapy can't work for you. EMDR approaches depression differently than traditional talk therapy, which is why some people find it helpful after other methods haven't moved the needle.
Do I need a diagnosis to start?
No. If low mood, emotional flatness, or hopelessness is getting in the way of your life, that's enough reason to reach out.
Do you accept insurance for depression treatment?
Yes. Visit the Fees & Insurance page for details on accepted plans and session costs.
